Hello, I am Dr. Anu Wadekar, the newly Licensed Psychologist at Zandier Counseling. I recently graduated with a PsyD doctorate and previously earned a Master’s in Child Development and Psychology from Duquesne University. During my studies at Duquesne, I developed an interest in assessing and treating pediatric mental illness, child advocacy, psychotherapy and mental health awareness.
While as a psychology resident at Zandier Counseling, I developed my therapeutic skills further under my supervisor, Mr. Don Zandier. I had the opportunity to work with people from different age groups and aid them in their mental health journey. As a psychologist, I am excited to continue to work with clients from various age groups and provide support, care, and service as needed.
Before deciding upon a career in Psychology, I earned my M.B.B.S. (M.D. equivalent) degree in India, where I worked as a medical doctor with the Indigenous population in rural areas. During that time, I learned that there is an interrelationship between psychological and physical health. As a medical doctor in India, I emphasized integrating physical health practices with mental health treatments that lead to more effective and holistic approaches to well-being.
When I first came to Pittsburgh, it wasn’t to be a Psychologist but to do medical research on Diabetes at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. During my research program, I saw firsthand that many patients with chronic illness did not receive adequate mental health support. Hence, it appeared that they were persistently stressed, leading to disruption of bodily systems, fatigue, and a compromised immune system. During this time, I recognized that I would be of more service by providing appropriate mental health care for those in need.
Here at Zandier Counseling, I am committed to providing comprehensive and high-quality care to clients. This includes thorough assessment, personalized treatment plans, evidence-based therapies, crisis interventions, and ongoing support. My values as a psychologist are to be genuine, empathic, and warm. I aim to create a therapeutic relationship based on trust, commitment, and positive regard, where I can provide my clients with a safe and secure space to explore their mental health needs.
